2011 Formula One
Pirelli tires, Draft Reduction Systems, many new drivers

I received the 2011 CracklyFinger Fantasy Formula 1 Trophy yesterday in the US mail! Apparently it is a real collector's item as Bernie told PJ Tierney he could not sell his work and it was all removed from PJ's site. I want to thank EVERYONE who helped me get here: Stone Brewery, Sauza Hornitos, Roor, Vettel, Button, Graham, HotRod (for coming in 2nd) and of course, Thank You Jesus!.
The celebrating will continue through out the off season at Jimbo's Garage where I am considering putting in a pole for the Button girls to dance on. They still haven't left the bathtub full of Mumms. There are pictures of the trophy front, trophy back and some celebrating for your viewing pleasure. Next season can't start soon enough for me. Perhaps we will all meet in Austin next year!
Luckiest guy in the Fantasy this season: Jimbo! And it was as close as it can get. Previous seasons saw 10 to 20 points between 1 and 2. Couldn't have done it without Jenson. The winner you get, the funner it is! Thanks for another great season at the CracklyFinger Graham! I have to confess: it wasn't Mumms on race day, it was Stone Vertical Epic 11-11-11, a 9.4% Anaheim chili and cinnamon flavored ale of remarkable character!
Some observed numbers:
P1's: Webber and Alonso-1 each, Button and Hamilton-3 each, Vettel-Uhhhh 11 times!
1st Place picks: docsue-14! Jimbo-13 HotRod,racerx, graham, Abby, OTBMP and dalio-12
Races at P1: Jimbo-6 racerx-5 HotRod-3 docsue & graham-2 matbarlow-1
Worst falls: Race 3-dalio 9 places, Race 2-Jimbo 7, Race 4-brickyard 7
Best gain: Race 4-dahlio 11 places (From 14th to 3rd! So dahlio get best AND worst.)
Race 3 saw only 2 players stay the same place
Race 17 saw no one change position from the previous race
I created a spreadsheet to derive the above. There are columns for each race showing the order of the players.
I'll be holding my thumb over it if my boys do well!!
I created a spreadsheet with various scenarios of outcomes of tomorrow's race and determined that if they finish as they have qualified, I will still be on top! I proceeded to calculate various outcomes and sure enough, DocSue could go P1, so could racerx or even HotRod. My brain started swelling and I couldn't take it. Think I'll go over to Irocky Liquor and pick up a real bottle of Mumms just in case. What could possibly go wrong?
Some great pictures at the F1Fanatic including Massa's new helmet. Click for the big picture and you can see 100(?) little horses on a big horse. Neat!
OMG! Sorry Nigel, Vettel breaks another record! I like the way the lad strokes Kinky Kylie. What a year for Seb and KK!
Wow! What a season this has been. I am looking forward to (and already enjoying) a relaxing, catch up Thanksgiving weekend topped off by the final race of the year. Will think of you all as I move into first place and handily take the much coveted winner's trophy. I know it has been a tough fought battle all year and am thinking some of that bubbly here, may help my cause! Cheers to you and enjoy the race!
The page I linked below at AutoWeek changes often and the article I was referring to has moved here. There is some more promising news now. Like still next year if they can come up w/ the $$ or 2013. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Looks like F1 in Austin is going down the drain. There are some depressing articles in AutoWeek.
But on a brighter note, I'm still delighting in the effervescence of the Mumms! I will be absolutely orgasmic if I'm in the same place after Brazil, but just saying that could jinx the deal. Happy, Happy! Joy, Joy! Poster?
Look at old HotRod, up 4 places for NOT picking Vettel while driving around Abby, TurboBoy, Graham and OTBMP! He was the only one not riding in Kinky Kylie this race and it paid off for 40 points (top score). He's shooting for a podium finish. Brickyard dropped 2 places letting 89TurboTA and Dahlio get around him. The rest of us stayed the same.
Oh yeah, and the race. Hamilton finally wins another race. I nearly fell out of my chair when the boys noticed Schumacher's wallet skitter across the track. WAY LOL!
Wow! Possible two F1 races in the states by 2013! Shall I start the party planning for trips to the races for the Crackly Finger Fantasy Gang? Sweet.
Hey Jimbo, send some of that bubbly our way!
There ya' have it race fans. HotRod down 2, Graham and OTBMP both up 1. Otherwise, the top 10 stays the same for 2 more weeks. Up here where the Mumms flows freely, the air is rarefied.
Yeah, that's what I wanna no. Long time.
My super driver picks are gunning to outdrive HotRod and TurboBoy, looking for top five, then podium at end of season!
Ok, good luck everyone! Let us know if watching rainy practice helped you make your picks.
#thatswhatshesaid
Where is flaviosfinger?
Besides EVERYONE picking Vettel, nine picked poor Alonso, who got passed by a guy that can't seem to start a race (poor Webber).
I think this is the 2nd time I've been P1, but the first was a short lived mistake last season. This time I spent the day in a buoyant tub full of bubbly Mumms with a couple of Jenson's groupies. We figured out all the 55 possible combinations of scores one could get. Of the 37 actual scores, only 24 of them are unique! Those girls were fascinating! They're coming back next week since there is no race to discuss the blown diffuser. They promised to bring more Mumms.
I wonder if racerx holds a record this season for time at the top? I will enjoy my two weeks basking at the pinnacle! It's great to have docsue up here with us too! Hey Graham, when we go to visit a past race, (like at http://cracklyfinger.com/fantasy/event/75/), is there a way to show the standings as of that time? I want to look back at the podiums in the past.
Wow, nine players tied for second place points in this race! Docsue moves into P3 for the championship. Tight race.
Haven't seen this before: The top ten at Singapore are all teammates that are qualified next to each other. Red Bull on top of course, then McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and even Force India. Each row belongs to one team. A rare occurrence I think.
Alonso and Button will play heavily into tomorrow's results here. Look out racerx, my DSR is activated and I'm coming around!
Get ready: the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix™ is coming to Circuit of The Americas™ on November 18, 2012!
BE THERE!
I hear that the U.S. Grand Prix has been moved to November of next year. Given the fact this event is going to be in Austin, Texas, I can assure everyone this is a very wise move. The summer temperatures down here in the Lone Star State would have made for extremely uncomfortable conditions for teams and fans alike...
Aye yai yai yai yaiiii! Me 'n OT BitMap tied for 3rd! Whoooweee! Don't know who this OT guy is, but I must confess, he's got more 43's than I, so he rightfully should be on top here on the podium quest. In fact, OT's the only picker with 4 43"s! (docsue and I were the only 43's this race- go Sue-go Button! Sue is actually tied with turboboy, another newcomer of unknown background but with rising aspirations.) But the way I see it, we're side by side with our eyes on Abby's rear end right now. We can feel the sweet heat coming off her diffusers and are ready to activate our DRS's in pursuit! Old racerx hangs tight with a narrow 5 point lead on Abby while HotRud languishes in 5th and graham still maintains the bump of the Pink Zone (El Bumpo del Zona Rosa). And now we wait for 3 weeks. Eeeeehaaaw! The Mumms tastes grand!
docsue is looking strong! her husband not so much after petrov bogged down starting the race in 2nd gear. I thought this was his "home" race and he loved the track and all that. Also figured all the big boy testosterone would bump several higher drivers out. Risky Roosky is right!
Jeez! No one has anything to say? We have this dandy Message Board tab, a whole bunch of players and not a one of you have any pearls of wisdom or wise cracks or anything? Even a little whining would be good. Like from POOR Graham! Holy Cow! Going out on a limb with a Risky Roosky did NOT pay out. Landed him on the bump eh. My condolences to g.
To tell the truth, I've been busy as hell (drinking Hornitos and Pacifico) and STILL haven't finished watching the race, but I know Button came in 6th. I was hoping for another podium.
Doc Sue continues to lead the pack with HotRod and I tied for 2nd! Eeeeehaaaaw! Ride 'em while ya gotem eh! By the British GP, I could be hanging at the bump. We're honkin' the horn and blowing the whistles over here at Jimbo's Geerage!
Wow! Talk about frustrating! Have not even seen race yet because our recording only went over 1 1/2 hours! Will see replay on Speed tomorrow!!! Sounds like it was the race finish of the century & leave it to my buddy Jensen to pull it out! Yea!!! I am psyched & hope you, Jimbo are okay today after celebrating our victory!!! Incredible! What a season!
Whoohoo Sue! Go girl! Me n you Babe! I was bankin on you to go P1 but I figured 4th or 5th for me not P2! Eeeehaaaw!! Vettel blows it? Who'da figured? I'm gunna get liquored up!
Here's an idea -- How about awarding 100 Bonus Points to the first person who's pick comes in 1st or 2nd that is not Vettel, Hamilton, Button or Webber? Let's encourage boldness, risk taking, insanity...
Vettel to the metal -- again! Why, oh why don't I ALWYAS pick him???
Hi everyone, Yesterday I drove our stock 2004 VW R32 in light rain at Grand Junction Motor Speedway. What a blast! This was my first track session ever. An experienced track buddy rode with me the first two sessions and provided braking and line tips. We had six run groups, A-F, based on driver skill and car power. My buddy drove in A group in a turbocharged Miata, I eventually landed in C group, entirely because of my car and not because of my skill. Our sessions included 1 out lap, 3 timed laps and one cool down, with 4-5 cars on track at 15 sec. intervals. It's a sweet 0.9 mile kart track, I'm betting Scott and Robert have run there.
The rain didn't dampen our spirits although lots of drivers spun at first as they recalibrated control input for the conditions. Turns out my Goodyear Eagle F1 street tires and R32 all-wheel drive were a good match for the wet track. A lot of drivers used street tires as their standard track rubber just wouldn't come up to temperature in the wet. Track temp ranged between 40-60 F during the day. Next time I expect temps will be much hotter and I'll need some track slicks for maximum fun.
Still waiting for online results. My initial times w/ESP (traction control) ON to see how it "helped" were 1:35.x and 1:28.x. Subsequently switched off that nonsense and gradually reduced lap times until bottoming out at 1:12.2 in my 7th of 8 sessions. Pretty happy with that for my first experience and cannot wait until the next track day. Drove home last night and spent hours re-watching China Grand Prix drivers and their lines. I need to use much smoother control input and better lines. I also need to learn heel-toe braking, my downshifts were mostly atrocious.
Best of all, docsue wants to attend the next track day to learn driving the R32 near its limits. Yeah baby!
Jimbo, thanks for your spot-on analysis of our cracklyfinger fantasy league leaderboard. Looks like apexalex missed the guess deadline. Glad he's got that shunt out of the way. It happens to everyone eventually.
I'm very happy (and surprised) to be #1 for now, but last season taught us that no lead is safe.
Heading to Grand Junction this weekend for a bit of kart track fun in our VW R32. Hoping to see HotRod and/or matbarlow at the track as well. I'll provide a full report next week.
Great article about how Massa and Rob Smedley have improved Felipe's outlook and results this season.
Graham moved up 4 places to the TOP with racerx on his tail having passed 5 to get there! Kind of like a Lucky Dog deal, only different. Good work boys! Scuderiateocalli moves back 1 but is still on the podium. Poor HotRod is passed by 3 hotter rods; I think he needs a new nose diffuser. MOST painful of all would be apexalex's loss of 8 places! That's worse than Webber's start 2 weeks ago in Malaysia! I actually passed 2 to get up to 8th and am happy to be in the pink! The only tie now is for the bump spot (#10). And so it will sit for 3 weeks, some SERIOUS rumbling on the CFF standings:
1 graham 115 +4
2 racerx 113 +5
3 scuderiaT 110 -1
4 HotRod 108 -3
5 docsue 106 -2
6 brickyard 100 -2
7 OTBMP 98 +1
8 Jimbo 97 +2
9 TurboBoy 94 +3
10 Abby 92 +1
11 matbarlow 92 0
12 SBFrnds 87 +2
13 dahlio 72 +3
14 apexalex 72 -8
15 89TuboTA 72 -2
16 Danifrog 61 -1
Unfortunately, I recently sold my Cessna 172 and currently do not have an aircraft to fly over the Austin F1 construction site. I can say that I was in Austin yesterday and heard from a good friend that construction is seemingly well under way. When I learn more, I'll pass it along. As for the posters -- I personally like Japan the best due to its simplicity. As for helmets, I agree with Graham regarding Massa's. Another race this coming weekend -- for my sake, let's hope SuperBestFriends does better than this past race........
Best race of the season so far. Especially loved Petrov's Superman flight. Kudos to Mark Webber for achieving fourth place while lugging 25 kilos of inoperative KERS dead weight.
After the race Hamilton received a 20 second penalty for an incident with Alonso. He dropped from 7th to 8th as a result. From the steward report: "Facts: The Driver of car 3 made more than one change of direction to defend a position."
Nice picking docsue, scuderiateocalli and OTBMP! Once again we have a tight race in cracklyfinger fantasy.
F1Fanatic has photos of each drivers helmet. My favorites are Vitaly Petrov, Vitantonio Liuzzi (mainly for lack of advertising) and Felipe Massa. Which are your favorites?
Whoa! Sergio and Kamui DQ'd over rear wing issues!
DSQ 17 Sergio Perez Sauber-Ferrari 58 +65.8 secs 13
DSQ 16 Kamui Kobayashi Sauber-Ferrari 58 +76.8 secs 9
I had to edit the results I entered last night but it didn't change much on the Fantasy Board. I think Dainfrog moved up a little but is still at the bottom. :( Bummer.
Petrov on the Podium! What a grin he had! Who'da thunk? With no history yet, do we go back to last season to break the tie for 1st, the 3-way for 2nd and the 4-way for 3rd? Did the adjustable wing help anyone? Why doesn't Red Bull use the KERS? Are we having fun yet? Hell yes!
Greetings All,,, SOO Excited for the season to start !! The posters are very cool,, I like Belgium & Brasil. Thank You for the offer to furnish First Prize !! If you (Graham) are able to overtake me for the championship,,,,,, I would be happy to create another "One of a Kind" trophy for all your hard work over the season.
2010 Cracklyfinger World Champion HotRod
So the questions begs: Where are Danifrog, SuperBestFriends, apexalex, 4BktVet, kapt and dahlio? And, welcome TurboBoy!
The place is looking snappy Graham! Tabs are groovy! I'm down! Seems like the bw is even up. The tie-breaker feature is nifty as is "sticky picks", which is particularly good for Friday night Rocket Riders who sometimes FORGET to make a pick! (A bit of work all that, eh?)
My FireFail starts w/ no less than 9 tabs. All the good stuff. I put Series 10 on a tab tonight. We're jumpin' over her here at Jimbo's Joint! So much new and unknown! Wake up fellow F1 fans, the fun begins!
Set YOUR Tab!
F1Fanatic.com has a nice review of the 2011 rule changes.
Check out these really cool posters by PJ Tierney, a young Irish designer. He created 19 posters in 19 days, one for each race of the 2011 season. I think they look great. I've been in contact with PJ and he will soon be selling prints, so...
Winner of this season's cracklyfinger fantasy F1 series can pick their favorite (subject to availability) courtesy of flyingcracker.com.
My favorites are India, Brazil and Hungary.
Signs of progress in Austin, so far so good.
Perhaps we can get our man on the scene, scuderiateocalli to fly over the Austin F1 site periodically and snap exclusive photos for us.
F1 Big Picture is a simple and elegant F1 web site. Gorgeous photos, highly recommended for fans.
More ideas for spicing up F1 races this season.
All players: You now have the option of saving driver picks for all remaining races. I suggest you "check" that box when you make picks for the first race so you don't miss a guess deadline later.
All players: The scoring system tiebreaker is now implemented as we discussed last season. If two or more players have the same point total, the tie is resolved by examining the number of first place picks, then the number of second place picks, etc. for each player.
As a result, "racerx" now appears correctly above "graham" in the standings for the 2010 Formula 1 fantasy series. Thanks to all who provided feedback on this issue.
Welcome to cracklyfinger's 2011 Formula One fantasy league!
