Hilltop Strangler
2 oz. gin
1 oz. apricot brandy
1 oz. lemon juice
splash Grenadine

Combine ingredients, adding grenadine last to taste. Shake with ice and pour over ice in a rocks glass. Substitute simple syrup for a tamer colored drink.

This drink is based on an original recipe called the "Hilltop Special" passed down by Big Bob Schappert. It originated at his family's hotel, the Hilltop Lodge in New York. One night, while creating a Hilltop Special we realized that there was no simple syrup to be found, and so substituted Grenadine, yielding the blood-red color and inspiring the name. Our subsequent game of Balderdash got way out of hand, so be sure to watch out for fireworks!
